Embroidery Pictures

Yesterday we visited Rob's aunt Dorothy and uncle Bob in Nottingham and found a treasure trove of artefacts collected from their round the world travels and Dorothy's embroidery.

This is a snap of the first one I noticed, hung in the downstairs loo. It is the size of a postcard, carefully stitched landscape of a flower meadow. This is most certainly my favourite, but there were lots of beautiful designs, hung on walls, covering cushions and boxes.

I have always liked embroidery, but I do not have the patience nor the steady hand required to produce my own work. I'll be on the look out for other stitched delights.

Corsages from silk flowers

These were my one of my first attempts at crafting since I left school 17 years ago. I abandoned my crafting like it was an old toy, I had discovered SLR cameras and a nikon coolpix digital. I was consumed in black and White printing and editing my digital pics (3 megapixels you know!!!)

corsage flowers, done! #TwitPict on Twitpic

These were corsages and button holes for my wedding. The donor decoration was a plastic branch with silk cherry blossoms from Wikinsons. The plastic stamen were removed, four or five petal heads were folded into four, stiched at the base then stitched rather crudely together.

During this activity I remembered how calming making things can be, there is something homely, rewarding and comforting about creating something with your hands, without squinting in front of a screen, hunched over a desk.

Flowers

I am off sick so my creative juices are not flowing freely, I drafted up the written content of this blog but my brain is not making too much sense, so until I can get it just right i'll set this as a preview!

Here are the decorations as they are being created, the day before the big day.  A variety of established potted herbs, trees and shrubs, flags, chinese lanterns, fairy lights and several miles of bunting, homemade and hung by various members of my family.

Here are a few snaps of the bouquets taken by my friend Sarah on the day of the wedding.  These are Hydrangea, cow parsley and lemon thyme, handpicked from my parent's garden and hand-tied by my Mum's friend Margaret and my super hero Aunty Mary.
